Women Overcoming Obstacles Incorporated is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization created by Cherise M. Jarvis (CEO). In her profession she has had the opportunity to speak with many women from a vast array of backgrounds. In talking to these women and looking introspectively, Cherise discovered a common thread among all of the women, including herself. That thread was that everyone was dealing with health and economic issues alone, with little to no real guidance. Many of them were still unhealthy, stressed, and felt alone.

This was the point that she decided that there was at definite need for an organization to guide women of color in the areas of health, economic development, and eco-friendly living. This organization would be a place for women of color to learn how to take care of their physical bodies and their finances. In August 2008, Women Overcoming Obstacles Inc. or WOO, was created.

Mission Statment

A human service agency created to increase communication between women of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. This organization will provide encouragement, information, resources, and a place for women seeking positive direction towards personal fulfillment, in the five boroughs of New York city and beyond.
